Topsail Consulting, Inc., is a family business. In 2002, Bob Cottrell and his son Ed Cottrell combined their years of experience in professional web design and computer services by going into business together. About Bob Cottrell
Bob Cottrell studied at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he first learned to program using punch cards on the university's IBM mainframe computer. Bob has been working as a free-lance software developer and computer consultant since 1980 through the sales, programming, and time-sharing of the Data General Nova3 series multi-user mini computer. Along with IBM mainframe software development, he pioneered programming on the earliest microcomputers by Apple and IBM. In 1981, Bob successfully interfaced IBM's PC with Data General's Nova3 and Nova4 systems. Bob's experience includes from the ground-up software development of systems for Accounting, Billing, Custom Databases, Electronics Testing, High Voltage Testing, Project Tracking, Four-Color Printing Systems, and much, much more. Getting in on the early stages of the Internet revolution, Bob has been building websites professionally since 1996, and has stayed current in the rapidly changing world of software products and computers. Bob is a co-founder of Topsail Consulting and currently serves as CEO.
About Ed Cottrell
Ed Cottrell studied at
Rice University
in Houston, Texas, and has been working as a free-lance web designer, software developer, and computer consultant since 1999. Ed learned to program at age 5 on an IBM PC Jr. without even a hard drive. Since then, through classes at every level of schooling and extra-curricular tinkering, he has mastered a variety of both standard and specialized operating systems and programming languages, including:

In 1997, Ed learned how to build his first website "the hard way" - by hard-coding it and using on-line HTML references - and was soon receiving requests for professional site design and consulting. Ed has become proficient in all major technologies related to dynamic website design, staying on the front wave of the Internet revolution. Ed is a co-founder of Topsail Consulting and currently serves as President.
