One Size Fits All... Right?

Do a quick search on Google and you're bound to find lots of "free" or low-priced do-it-yourself website tools. "Start earning immediately!" ... or so they say. But, do these "one-size-fits-all" sites work?

Maybe, maybe not. The question is: what do you need in a site? For affiliate sites, which can sometimes afford not to be distinctive and often need the same features as other affiliate sites, a "cookie-cutter" site may be okay. If you need to be different, though - and who wants just to be "normal?" - you need a human touch. There is a cost difference, of course - the "cookie-cutter" sites often end up costing far more to operate. How much is a sale worth to you? A dozen sales? You do the math. When you're convinced, let us do the coding. Contact us today for more information and receive a 10% discount for mentioning this newsletter.

One Size Fits All... Really!

If you've ever bought a software package and been, well, less then perfectly pleased, you know how frustrating it is when your new investment breaks, disagrees with your virus scanner, or never even installs. Some investment... On the other hand, computers are useful tools. Just think how much time (=money) you would save if you could automate that report, or that customer response system, or that database maintenance. Wouldn't it be great if somebody could write a piece of software to do just that, the way you want it done?

There's the rub, though: in a year or two, you're going to want an upgrade - either on the software, or on your operating system, or on your Office suite... And then you have to pay for the software all over again! Right? Not so fast... Traditionally, programs are written for one type of system, and "software maintenance" is an oxymoron. Today, though, things are changing, thanks to Sun and the Java programming language. The idea behind Java is "compile (create) once, run anywhere" - so well-written Java software can run on Windows Me just as well as Windows XP, or Mac OS X, or RedHat Linux, and on and on. This makes custom software much more affordable. At Topsail Consulting, we have often been able to quote custom applications at less than a third of the cost of equivalent retail software! Until next time, may your software fit your business like a glove, and we hope this information helps you make the best decisions for your business.

Sincerely,

Ed Cottrell, Editor and President
